two people hand a letterpress business card over a table while drinking

As I was talking to a friend recently he told me that there was a new app that would make business card superfluous. Well. That is ridiculous. Them people have been trying to destroy the beautiful parts of this world for years. The folks who made almond butter have been trying to destroy peanut butter (this may actually not be true. I just made it up.) But in reality the world of the business card has never been more important. There are very few mediums where you can instantly give your branding to someone and give them a reason to remember you and contact you. For business purposes. Or other purposes actually.

I would argue that now more than ever we need a card that stands out and reinforces why someone should contact you. Sure, you could stand there and pull your phones out and connect on social media. Or swap phone numbers. But while you are holding a drink in your hand and walking around the room, talking to the strangers in your vicinity, why would you want your phone out? You don’t. You want to be present. And the only extra effort that you need is a slight reach into your pocket to pull out your perfectly branded business card. And that will make you stand out more in this muddled world of getting to know you.

I often say to folks that the best cards require someone to take a second glance. But also recognizable as a business card. You could go on very think paper. You could use letterpress. You could emboss or deboss. You could use bright colors. You could not include any contact info so they have to ask how to get ahold of you. You could duplex contrasting colors together. You could edge them. You could use Spot UV. You could have a card designed by Jessica Hische. You could have a card designed by your kids. You could have a die cut. You could literally do a million various things to make your brand and you stand out. But the point is, pulling out a phone and sending your contact info that way just muddles you up inside a contacts file. And you certainly don’t want that.

Do you?

Now. Ask how to get a hold of me.IMG_1410
